Sunsetting The Waveform
Hello Friends,
Something went click in my mind last week and I decided that I didn’t need to write two completely different newsletters any more.
The decision was an obvious one, if you go by the numbers. I’ve published thirty-one issues of this newsletter and more than sixty issues of my other newsletter, 500 Words.
Wait, You Have Another Newsletter?
Yes, I do. And here I am, inviting you to switch to it. It’s called 500 Words.
Join 500 Words — Free Subscription
If you come along for the ride, you’ll get my latest thinking on the how-to’s of podcasting; I have a lot of that to share. And 500 Words will also take you into a journey to the land where ideas come from. It’s a newsletter about the creative process and how you get your voice and words in front of lots of people using independent publishing and podcasting channels. I believe in “indie” and write about it often in 500 Words. I publish the newsletter every week, except when I take occasional breaks.
Wave Goodbye to The Waveform
The Waveform, the newsletter you’re reading now, will switch off soon. If that makes you feel a void in your inbox, by all means, subscribe to 500 Words
If you want a newsletter that is purely about podcast news, there are plenty of folks doing that well, notably Pod News, the AIR newsletter, and Hot Pod from The Verge.
500 Words has my essays about the climate emergency (the defining existential struggle of our time), my celebrations and worries about AI, and thoughts on the creative process.
Here’s what you’ll get with your free subscription:
-tactical thoughts on where podcasting is going
-bigger thoughts on where the future is going
-even bigger thoughts on how we can influence the future to make a better world
-normal-sized announcements on new publications, books, and podcasts
If that appeals to you, click this link.
Breaking a Marketing Rule
Now, in asking you to subscribe to my other newsletter, I’m breaking a marketing rule. Company newsletters, and company online communications, are supposed to be only about one thing — the brand.
500 Words is different. It’s a newsletter about taking creative risks. It looks at the world through a wider lens than The Waveform. So I acknowledge that brand confusion may ensue if you switch. If it occurs, please sit down, drink plenty of water, and wait for the dizzy feeling to pass.
You can’t grow and change if you don’t take creative risks. All businesses have to change to lead and prosper. I invite you along on this journey with me. The Waveform will stop publishing next month. If you find what I write interesting, then go ahead and subscribe to 500 Words at https://buttondown.email/500words
Thanks for reading,
Lee
